Fowey

Tywardreath Priory granted a town charter to Fowey in 1190  but it was during the 1300s that the town’s trade began to overtake that of Lostwithiel upriver. Fowey prospered on the back of that trade – both legal and illegal!

By 1900 Fowey had quietened down

Formerly on the edge of the town, the 6th century Tristan stone is now accompanied by 21st century housing.
