Defining identity

By identities I mean the identity of people, not the identity of a territory. The former includes the subjective identication of the inhabitants of the territory concerned. The latter relates to the commonly held images and sterotypes of the territory. In the specific case of the Cornish identity there is a large disjunction between the two as the identity of Cornwall is produced and reproduced by both the Cornish and others and might include the geographical boundaries of the territory or its scenery and landscape. It is not at all the same thing as the Cornish identity.
